Morden - A stretchy playdough experiment!

Our Week in the Forest

Happy Friday everyone! We’ve made it to another month!

This week at Little Forest Folk Morden, we have been focusing on developing our little ones’ mathematical skills, particularly comparing size, weight and length.

To support this learning, we enjoyed lots of exciting hands-on activities. One of our favourites was measuring everyone’s height using pieces of string. Each child’s string was attached to a note showing their age (for example, 3 years and 4 months). Our little adventurers loved laying the strings side by side, comparing their lengths and discovering who was taller, shorter, older or younger. It sparked lots of curiosity and conversation while helping them explore mathematical concepts in a fun and meaningful way.

Another exciting activity this week was our stretchy playdough experiment! One of our teachers combined hair conditioner and cornflour to create a wonderfully soft and stretchy dough with a completely different texture to our usual playdough. The children were fascinated by how it felt and eagerly tested just how far they could stretch it, challenging themselves to make the longest playdough worms possible. This was a fantastic way to weave mathematical thinking into a sensory experience, encouraging measuring, comparing and problem solving through play.

That’s all from us at Morden this week! We hope you all have a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week.
