Our Week in the Forest
Our busy week in the Morden forest saw some more spring preparation! 🦋 Our Little Forest Folk-ers have been hard at work planting some seeds and bulbs ready to let our wild flowers grow all over our favourite play space. The children used their maths skills to count the seeds, number of scoops of soil and pours of water to make the perfect bed for the flowers to grow. We spoke about the changes we'll expect to see as spring continues in our forest. The children are really excited to start more work on our vegetable garden too!
With our maths intent this week, we had loads of maths opportunities dotted around the space. Placing the corresponding number of leaves into the labeled circle was one of our favourites, as well as incorporating patterns into our crafts and painting. While we love to teach these specific skills, it's even better to see their maths skills being used practically and independently in their play! The children use these skills in the mud kitchen, through their role play games and through their spontaneous maths language through the day!
Last but not least, we had a wonderful time celebrating St Patrick’s Day with our friends! The children jumped into play by going on a search for the leprechauns who had hidden golden coins all around the forest! Our mud kitchen turned into our favourite pub where we could sing and dance all day and our educator Caitlin even taught us some Irish Dancing moves! We had such a wonderful time celebrating
