Our week in the forest

This was another fabulous week in the forest! The children learned about the festival of Hanukkah🕎

Before learning about the festival, the children worked on their snipping skills and made snowflakes. They tried cutting intricate shapes or traced the tricky ones before unfolding their paper to reveal the beautiful designs.

In the afternoon, the children discussed the 8 days of Hanukkah and began making their potato latkes (a traditional Hanukkah treat). First, they shredded the potatoes, then the onion before adding a bit of flour, 1 egg and some salt. Then, they built and tended to the fire before firing off the potato pancakes! They were deeeeeelish! Shoutout to the little chefs!👨🏻‍🍳

This week, the children made their own Christmas hats using natural materials and lots of beautiful Christmas paper. They enjoyed decorating their hats and choosing how to design them, getting ready for the colder season. This activity gave them a chance to be creative while practicing their snipping skills🎄🍃

The children also spent time role-playing different jobs, pretending to be adults at work and they enjoyed a Christmas music dance party together. They made sure to rest and “sleep” before heading back to work again, which led to lots of laughter and imaginative play. They also enjoyed sharing stories and looking through postcards, talking about different places around the world. 📮📚This role play also inspired the children to play a lively game of Three Little Pigs, running away from the educators acting as the big bad wolf and hiding in the den so they wouldn’t get caught. It was very fun and energetic!

The children have also enjoyed their latest obsession of reading all of the fabulous Christmas and Winter books we fetched from the library last week! 'The Snowman', 'Twas the Night Before Christmas' and '10 Little Elves' have been their absolute favourites. All of these stories prompt discussions about their personal holiday traditions or things they enjoy doing with their families.

The children also worked on Christmas collages featuring pictures of themselves. It was tons of fun snipping their pictures, painting the glue and sticking on lots of beautiful paper. Before heading home, our little festive adventurers enjoyed gingerbread cookies for afternoon snack.

A wonderful week!

We are sending you all our festive wishes!
