Winkworth - Sparkling Smiles and Dazzling Teeth

Our Week in the Forest

What a cold start we had this week, but we still saw so many sparkling smiles that inspired us to think all about our teeth and how we look after them. This prompted some interesting questions. Do animals brush their teeth? We set off into the Arboretum to see what we could spot, but there was not a tooth brushing squirrel or a flossing owl in sight! There were however some Christmas nutcrackers in the path with big bright smiles. Using sticks covered in lichen, the children used their forest toothbrushes to scrub the nutcracker’s teeth.

Our Little Forest Folk-ers have practiced being dentists, lying back in our own forest dentist chair for a checkup. The eager dentists used all of the equipment at their disposal. We also took to the high seas and revisited the diggers after seeing some diggers in action at the visitors centre. Before dinner we then got crafty and made some tooth collages of our very own super strong teeth! We talked a lot about what we can eat to look after our teeth too.

As well as this, we’ve been looking at germs and had a big red bath filled with different animals to support ‘The Big Red Bath’ book. Here the children have been washing the animals as well as painting the big red bath red. To further explore the topic of germs, we have had some gloves filled with water and some clothes for our little explorers to wash as well as a paint dabbing activity where their paint became a visual for how germs spread.

The mud kitchen became an animal spa where our little adventurers all got to wash the different animals, this sparked lots of conversations about how you can identify different animals from each other.

Another fabulous week, have a great weekend!
