Winkworth - It's the Most Wonderful Time to Learn!

Our Week in the Forest

It’s the most wonderful time of the year for learning about our bodies and the ways to keep them healthy!

We started off the week focusing on our shelter building skills. Together the little ones erected a tarp over a central rope and then used a mallet to hammer the tent pegs in place. The result was a wonderful weather-proof tunnel that we all adored travelling through. The children even set up a coffee stand at one end that served all sorts of treats like blue coffee and no-ccinos. Under the tarp we could keep ourselves dry from the rain and sheltered from the wind. Out in the elements children kept their hoods up and made sure to keep all their winter accessories on to keep their bodies warm.

Then we learned all about the superpowers of veggies with our favourite veggie of them all - Supertato! Our little adventurers used palm drills to make holes and carefully inserted sticks to give them some arms and legs. They even designed a cape and then snipped some ribbon to tie it round them. We finished the veggies off with some eyes and our super veggies were ready to go, full of vitamins to help our bodies grow big and strong.

We also revisited our good friend the hungry caterpillar that had a big appetite for all sorts of delicious food. This was a good opportunity to talk about all the food we love. The children engaged in a posting activity to fill up the hungry caterpillar with lots of food. This resulted in good discussions about healthy choices. We all agreed that cake is delicious but too much might make us feel sick. We even grew our own caterpillars by placing our finger prints in a line and counting out the segments while we talked about what helps us grow.

At the end of the week we had to top it off with a big adventure, exercising our bodies to make our muscles and hearts grow strong. Our Little Forest Folk-ers ran all the way down to the boat house, splashed and danced in the rain and then conquered the big flight of steps to get back in time for lunch. It’s such a privilege to see the beaming smiles of our happy and healthy adventurers out in the forest!
