Our Week in the Forest
It has been a wonderful first week of December filled with entertainment and learning. We are so proud of the children for expressing their creativity and curiosity whilst embracing their environment.
We started off this week with the Little Forest Folk-ers joining together for our core songs - the Good Morning Song, our Forest School Rules Song, the Days of the Week Song, Please and Thank You Song and the 5 Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed song. These songs set a warm and familiar rhythm for our mornings and help the children settle in beautifully. We also revisited some of our core books, including 'The Gruffalo', 'Pip and Posy', our favourite 'Shapes Book' and the 'Fish Pattern Book', sparking excitement and familiarity. The children quickly immersed themselves in hands-on creativity as they made their very own Christmas ornaments using clay and cookie cutters. They explored the texture of clay with curiosity and delight, rolling, pressing, shaping and designing ornaments to take home. Their confidence grew as they became more independent with the tools, resulting in wonderful festive creations.
By midweek, we saw our little learners diving deeper into letter recognition. They practised identifying small letters and capital letters, even beginning sorting out which letters appear in their own names. This activity encouraged focus and pride, leading to big smiles as they discovered their letters in the forest.
The children also worked together to create stick-and-string constructions, experimenting with how natural materials can be tied, balanced and connected. This open-ended project encouraged teamwork, trial and error, with plenty of imaginative thinking.
Also during the week the Little Forest Folk-ers embarked on an adventure walk, where they spotted a variety of birds including ducks and elegant swans. These encounters sparked conversations about habitats, bird behaviour and the beauty of nature in winter.
It has been a week full of creativity, exploration and learning, all wrapped in the magic of the festive season.
