Wimbledon Village - Swapping Wooly Hats and Gloves for Sunhats

Our Week in the Forest

This week has seen us return to fantastic weather, the sun is shining and gloves and hats are almost a thing of the past, but we are not quite out of the woods yet (excuse the pun!) The warming weather as well as the time of year has given lots of reasons for fun and lots of different activities.

To celebrate Eid we used pencils to colour in paper hands with henna tattoo patterns and then loved going around and giving each other high fives. On St Patrick's day we saw lots of leprechauns on the window of the golf club. We talked about what St Patrick did and how some people believe he threw all the snakes in the sea (which isn’t kind and gentle really, is it?). We then spoke about some of the other patron saints of the British Isles.

For some maths work this week we brought out tape measures to help us to sort sticks and leaves into piles of the same sizes to create our own woodland crowns.

This week we have also been looking at ways to make ourselves more eco-friendly. On Monday we made a water filter from pine needles to see if we could filter out the mud from the stream, and we’re happy to say it worked to get the mud out. We then followed the stream all the way to the fairy bridge and then nobody knows where the water goes after that … maybe another adventure walk next week!

To carry on with our eco-friendly activities, we reused some plant pots to plant bluebell seeds with our own forest compost that we have made by collecting up all the leaves last year.

What a fun-filled week, we can’t wait till next!
