Our Week in the Forest
What a truly wonderful week it’s been in the forest! The season of change is in full swing and the children have fully embraced the magic of autumn. The crunch of leaves beneath their boots, the golden colours glistening in the sunshine and the fresh, earthy scent in the air have made every moment outdoors feel exciting and full of discovery.
This week, one of the biggest highlights has been our adventure walks. The children have been eagerly asking each morning if it’s time to head out exploring again! Each walk has been a new opportunity to observe the natural world more closely - spotting mushrooms peeking through the soil, listening to the birds calling from the treetops and noticing the subtle changes in the trees around us. Our autumn scavenger hunts have been an absolute hit too! Whether searching for acorns, conkers and red and yellow leaves, or identifying different tree types by their bark and shapes, the children have shown great enthusiasm and teamwork. A particular favourite this week was our mini pumpkin scavenger hunt - laughter and excitement filled the forest as children worked together to find tiny pumpkins hidden all around.
With Halloween just around the corner, our imaginative play and creative exploration have been filled with spooky fun. Potion-making in the mud kitchen has been one of the most loved activities - with children mixing, pouring and experimenting to create all sorts of magical brews. Our lemon fizzy pumpkin potion was a big success, with bubbling, fizzing and plenty of giggles! Beyond the fun, these potion sessions were also brilliant science lessons in disguise, as the children explored cause and effect, chemical reactions and measurement.
This month, we have also been celebrating Black History Month. Through engaging stories, meaningful discussions and creative projects, the children have been learning about inspirational people from the past and present who have made a difference in the world. These moments have encouraged thoughtful conversations about kindness, respect, and inclusion, helping us reflect on how we can all contribute positively to our community.
In addition to our adventures and celebrations, we have continued to explore emotions and self-regulation. Through storytelling, role play and creative expression, the children have been learning to identify how they feel, talk about their emotions and find calm when things feel tricky. These are such important lifelong skills and it’s been wonderful to see their growing empathy and understanding.
From potion-making to pumpkin hunts, from scavenger trails to moments of reflection, this week has been full of learning, laughter and connection. As we continue our autumn journey, we look forward to more adventures, creativity and moments of joy in the forest together. 🍁✨
