Twickenham - The Year of the Horse, Flipping Pancakes and Holiday Campers

Our Week in the Forest

Hurrah, we have had a fabulous week in the forest this week welcoming our holiday campers into our space for half term. We’ve made new friends and welcomed back some old ones and we have all had a delightful time.

It has been an exciting week in the forest with Chinese New Year  恭喜发财" (Gung Hei Fat Choi) and pancake day falling on the same day as Ramadan, “Ramadan Mubarak”. For Chinese New Year we learnt all about this special time of the year through our Cantonese educator who taught us how to write some Chinese characters, told us all about delicious yummy festival food and also taught us how to wish everyone a Happy New Year in Cantonese.

In the afternoon we mixed up a vegan gluten free banana pancake batter and sat around our fire cooking the pancakes at snack time. They were really yummy and we also used this as a wonderful opportunity to learn and remind ourselves how to be safe around fire.

Tool time all week has been stimulating for us all as we have learnt how to be safe around the tool zone, how to carry a saw and how to use a saw safely. We all took turns sawing a branch into 1cm thick slices of wood called ‘cookies’ and then we decorated them with brightly coloured pens. On another day we learnt how to use a hammer safely and happily hammered nails into small pieces of wood and then decorated our nail art with multicoloured wool.

We have read stories, sung songs and played in our mud kitchen creating:
Jiaozi (dumplings), Chun Juan (Spring Rolls) and Changshou Mian (longevity noodles).

Thanks for coming to the forest, see you again next time.
