Our Week in the Forest
Brrrrrrrr π₯... It's officially the most cosy and colourful season of the year! We love Autumn in the forest because it is a totally magical and sensory experience for everyone. From the contrast of textures found in spiky shells and smooth and glossy conkers, to the magic of green leaves turning to earthy and vibrant colours while gradually falling as confetti swirling in the air, this week we welcomed Autumn at Little Forest Folk Fulham! πππ
We started our week 'Going on a Bear Hunt' to explore our wonderful surroundings. While Katie told us the story through movement, our brave and definitely not scared children went through the actual long, wavy grass β swish swish swish! We imagined rivers of giant, crispy leaves, a snowstorm with the last green leaves swirling and whirling in the air, and of course went through the big, dark forest until we found a narrow and gloomy spot under the twisted and wise old trees. Our educators pretended to be big bears and our little explorers ran with excitement and laughter. What a beautiful day! π»πΏπ
Every time we walked through the forest, it was a lovely opportunity to see what our Pirates of Autumn could find in nature. We took our cardboard box and went on a treasure hunt. Our children appreciate more than anyone all sorts of little gems - from 'special and magical sticks', or the smallest leaf as red as a ruby, to the most symmetrical, gorgeous golden leaves.
During the whole week, we opened our treasure chest at camp and shared ideas for our Arts and Crafts station. We made magic wands using our precious sticks. We drew stars on silver cardstock using a star-shaped plastic cutter and cut them out. We stuck the shiny stars onto the sticks, decorated our magic wands by tying coloured ribbons around them and Abracadabra!... We turned into Autumn fairies! π§ββοΈβ¨βοΈ
Definitely, there must be a fairy godmother around Fulham Palace Gardens, as we spotted the first giant and orange pumpkin of the year! Or shall I say the Pumpkin Coach? π We didn't attend a ball; instead this week we went to play tennis! On Wednesday, we went to the tennis courts located near Bishops Park. We started with a warm-up, copying Dan, our cool tennis coach. We practised focus and hand-eye coordination skills using rackets, balloons and bean bags. Then we were all ready for the most fun tennis match. They smashed it!πΎππββοΈπ
We also made picture frames using the leaves from our treasure chest. Our little artists loved peeling off the double-sided sticky tape. They stuck their selection of leaves onto their card paper pieces and some of them traced their names inside. What a lovely and ephemeral Autumn craft! πΌοΈπππ°οΈ
Probably the most ephemeral and precious wonders our children spotted this week were clouds! With gorgeous weather lasting the five days of the week, we went cloudgazing in the walled garden under a lovely blue sky. We practised our observation skills while enjoying such a great mindful activity. Our Little Forest Folk-ers let their imagination run wild, and some of them spotted a pelican shape in a sky full of white, fluffy and fast-changing clouds which definitely will long last in our minds for at least this whole wonderful season! βοΈβ
