Chiswick - Treasure Hunts & Fairy Houses

What a beautiful week it’s been in the forest as we kicked off the first week of Summer Holiday Camp! We were thrilled to welcome both new and familiar faces for a week full of wild animal adventures and nature-based play.

We embraced our theme of wild animals by making our very own lion masks, using leaves we gathered from the forest floor to create leafy manes. The children took such care in their creations, we can’t wait for you to see them!

We also got creative with dragonfly crafts, using colourful paints to decorate sticks and wrapping yarn to form big, vibrant wings. Alongside this, the children enjoyed making tiger masks, using their fine motor skills to cut, colour and assemble their fierce feline designs. Of course, they gave their tigers a full tour of the forest, with plenty of roaring practice!

There was a real sense of adventure as the children went on a nature treasure hunt, collecting leaves, flowers and acorns to use in their beautiful weaving creations. Their keen eyes and curiosity made the activity so special.

One group worked together to build a fairy house, carefully balancing sticks and using grass to form walls and windows. They added thoughtful touches like a cosy bed for Grandma Fairy and pinecones for decoration, such imagination and teamwork!

We also explored the world of mini beasts through bug identification, turning over logs and digging small holes to spot different insects using ID cards. The children asked thoughtful questions and showed great care and curiosity for the forest creatures.

A highlight this week was checking in on the blackberries we’ve been watching grow over the past few weeks. We noticed some were finally ripe and juicy, so we set off on an adventure walk to pick the best ones we could find. Back in the forest, we gave them a good wash and enjoyed a delicious, fresh snack straight from nature!

Throughout the week, there was plenty of time for painting, making forest wands from natural materials and engaging in open-ended play, from whipping up forest feasts in the mud kitchen, to flying high on the swing and relaxing in the hammock.

Thank you for another amazing week in the forest. We can’t wait to see what adventures next week brings!
