Twickenham’s Little Forest Folk-ers have been exploring our sense of smell this week with various herbs, flowers, coffee, peppermint and vanilla, to name just a few of our sweet smelling ingredients.
We had a witches potion area one day, where our little witches brewed concoctions up in the mud kitchen. On another day, we had pink water and herbs combined to create perfumes and poisons, and later in the week we had stars and aromatherapy oils to drop into our water and potions.
There has been shaving foam, smooth mud, playdough to create gingerbread houses for Hansel and Gretel to hide in, as well as small cars and dinosaurs driving up ramps and rolling down through tunnels created from drain pipes.
As we play at being witches and enjoying classic stories, we have also been learning about the real world around us, police officers and what they do, clever police dogs, fishermen and women out at sea in their boats, as well as learning about scientists who make medicines from many of the scents we have been sniffing and smelling.
It has been a wonderful sensory week for both our younger Little Forest Folk-ers as well as the older children.
