Winkworth - Five Little Ducks!

This week has been a number-tastic week in the forest. We have had such fun exploring numbers with ducks, drawings, scales and tape measures and much, much more.

With all the rain and sun we have had lately, all the bracken has grown ever so tall, taller than our Little Forest Folk-ers and even the educators too! We decided to get out the tape measures to measure exactly how tall it had grown. One piece measured a whopping 200 cm! So much fun was had measuring lots of different things, looking at the numbers and repeating them.

We have been duck hooking this week as well. Chasing some rubber ducks around the pond with a fishing rod that we made from a stick and string. Once we caught one, we could count the dots on its back and see if they matched the number on its tummy. There was lots of giggling to be heard as the ducks kept swimming away, as well as lots of brilliant singing of the ‘5 Little Ducks’ song too. We also did some weighing with the scales, we gathered lots of different size rocks and had a great time seeing the different numbers pop up when we placed different combinations of rocks onto the scales.

We had so much fun on the pirate ship this week, counting how many Little Forest Folk-ers we could get to walk the plank and seeing how many sharks and crocodiles we could see in the sea below. There was lots of talk about how many yards ahead there was another ship and how long we would need to sail for to reach them. Hats were of course worn to make sure we looked the part and we all had lots of fun along the way.

Have a great weekend everyone!
