Another wonderful holiday camp week at Little Forest Folk Wimbledon! It was lovely to see some of our older friends join us in the forest and great to share a fun week with them.
This week we have done some more tool work, focusing on sawing, whittling and drilling. The children made some spinning tops using sticks that they found in the forest. They looked for a log that could be sawed into wood cookies and took turns to cut it themselves (whilst supervised by an educator). Next, they drilled a hole in the middle of the wood cookie which they could put a smaller stick into, to then make the cookie spin around. The stick for the middle was whittled at the end so it would fit in the hole. It was great to practice some tool work as well as create a fun toy to play with.
We also spent time this week planting wildflower seeds for the birds. The children had small pots with soil and planted their wildflower seeds inside. The rain then came at the perfect time to add some moisture to the pots to help them begin to grow. It was a lovely way to create extra food for the insects and we can add to our meadow full of buttercups.
It has been a lovely week for holiday camp and we have enjoyed so many great activities.
We canβt wait to see our sessional friends again next week, and have even more fun!
