Welcome back to the forest. We have been enjoying our favourite books and some new titles, while we explored literature. The children have been creating their own stories and scripts for puppet shows as the staff helped write the stories down.
As the extraordinarily hot British summer continues we have kept cool by going on river walks, picking huge juicy sweet blackberries, eating chilled watermelon and running through the jet from our hose pipe as it sprinkles in an arch across the forest creating sparkling rainbows.
On our craft table we have been practising our sewing as we threaded a shoe lace through some alphabet letter outlines which had been punched into a thickened plastic. A lot of the children chose the first letter of their names, others chose letters they liked the shape of.
We created a massive snakes and ladders game drawn out in chalk upon the ground. We rolled a dice and then moved about our 4m square board going up the ladders and down the snakes. We took turns waiting to throw the dice and then stepped from square to square.
We enjoyed the sensation of goop, playdough, salt dough, water play, ice play and sand. The mud kitchen has also been very busy creating delicious meals.
On our river walks we saw metallic blue dragonflies, butterflies, ducks, a heron and the plum tree and conker trees producing their fruits.
Thanks for coming to the forest, see you next time!
