It has been a swelteringly hot week across the country, but here at Little Forest Folk Twickenham we have been cool and happy.
The glorious shade under the huge plane tree has helped to keep us cool. The daily slices of chilled watermelon were delicious, and we had a solar powered fountain sprinkler plus hosepipe play to help us keep cool as we ran through the droplets and spotted rainbows. We had water play with gutters and buckets, we had a foot spa where we all sat cooling our feet and ice play which was very refreshing as we cracked the ice to get the entombed animals out.
Insects were one of our themes this week as we went on bug hunts and put out cool water for the birds and bees. We dressed up as butterflies and looked at all sorts of bugs under our microscope and inspected some resin encased bugs that an educator brought in.
It was Public Service Day during the week and we dressed up as doctors, fire fighters, dentists, bus drivers and vets. The children love role playing and sharing their first hand experiences and imagined duties of the wonderful people who look after us all. We had an engineering area where we had to build homes for people and found animals trapped in ice so our marine biologists came to the rescue to save the animals.
On International Fairy Day we made crowns with feathers, ribbons and gems as well as practising our kind words and kind actions. We also had a spa day today as we cooled our feet in a large trough of cool clear water.
We made giant bubbles on Thursday which took a lot of skill from our Little Forest Folk-ers as they practised their sharing skills and learnt to very slowly wave the wand through the air as the giant, amorphous bubbles were created.
We had painting, drawing, singing and stories as usual and our young ones slept under the cool trees in the afternoon.
Thank for coming to the forest, see you again next time
