Twickenham - Wriggly Worms & Hug a Cat Day!

Our Week in the Forest

Welcome back to the forest, we have had a marvelous week!

We have created a lovely little selfcare area in the forest which includes a mirror near the hand washing area where our little explorers can see what they’re doing when they are washing their faces after meals as well as allowing them to check their faces for paint or mud after they have washed their hands. A few of our children regularly check their hair in the mirror throughout the day too or adjust any home made crowns they might have on their heads!

As the weather has been a little cooler this week, we have been tending to our garden, watering our very thirsty plants and sowing some new flower seeds. Donning our gloves and armed with small forks and spades, we have enjoyed the smell of the soil and the scent of the plants, as well as the joy of finding a pink wiggly worm, checking him out and then allowing him to go upon his merry way to aerate our soil and help our plants grow.

It was “Hug a Cat Day” this week which meant we could all talk about the pets we have at home. Some of our children and educators have dogs, some have fish, some have no pets and a lot of us have cats. We created lovely cat portraits on paper plates and then we threaded wool and string along the edges of the plate through holes created by a hole puncher.

In another area of the forest the children drew a huge cat as big as a car on the forest floor. Our cat had four legs, a huge head, pointy ears and a long, long tail. We then decorated the cat with natural items like stones for eyes, a planter pot for a nose, leaves for fur and string for whiskers, and sticks for legs and so on.

In our craft area throughout the week we have also threaded with beads, drawn bicycles and talked about road safety as well as snipping at pieces of fabric and creating our own wonderful flags.

Thanks for coming to the forest, see you again next time.
