Wimbledon Village - Helping our Little Forest Folk-ers Understand Emotions

Our Week in the Forest!

We have now reached the end of another fun-filled week in the forest. Even with it being a short week we still managed to cram a lot in. Sadly, as it has been much amusement for the children it looks like the caterpillars are starting to make their chrysalis ready to become butterflies. With lots of different colour caterpillars hopefully we will see lots of different types of butterflies and do our best to identify them. With this in mind we have ordered some from insect lore so we can watch the process in our class room. Utopia is still making the rounds this week and has visited two families, she is having so much fun we think we will need to order her a new diary!

Back in the forest one of the focuses this week has been emotions and one of the activities has allowed children to make their own faces out of clay, talking through what emotions their clay face creations might show and how we are feeling ourselves. To further help the children understand how to talk about how we feel we have been using the colours of the zones of regulation during our discussions.

As ever the local wildlife is getting more and more used to us being part of the forest and we have now ‘adopted’ some squirrels at base camp. The children have given them the names Sparkles and Sprinkles.

As always this week has also seen lots of digging up the road and lots of fire tea. Don’t forget that Emma the photographer is coming in next week and if you wish for your child to take part you will need to have a completed form filled in via her website!

We are wishing you all a great weekend and looking forward to seeing you all in the forest next week.
