Our Week in the Forest
Throughout the week, we have been on the lookout for patterns in everything around us and have tried to make our own whenever we can. Children looked at markings on animals and bugs, one morning creating masks from felt and ribbon, using mark making to create the pattern of whiskers, lashes and fur. They spotted lots of snails this week too - the very small babies we've seen, on the way to camp, on brambles and cow parsley, have grown into bigger and stripy specimens that some of us got a closer look at!
Other activities included creating patterns within construction, during which our Little Forest Folk-ers were given cards with colour patterns that they tried to recreate with building blocks. We asked our little adventurers to come up to the table in the order that they were called to get their snacks and lunches, which required some shuffling, problem-solving and remembering the pattern of names. It also went towards preparing many of our eldest children for the order of the day in their new school settings, where there will no doubt be lots of lining up!
A final note this week, in celebration of ourselves and all those families who have been part of Little Forest Folk Wimbledon Village (and formerly, Wandsworth). Today marks 8 years since we opened in our original site in Wandsworth! Thank you to all of you for being part of our lovely little community and to some of you for following us to our new Wimbledon Village location!
Enjoy the sun and stay safe, shady and hydrated this weekend. Have a great one!
