Wimbledon -Water & Ice Play

Our Week in the Forest

The sun has really come out in the forest this week and we have had lots of fun water and ice play!

The children enjoyed using some rather special ice in the mud kitchen that had orange slices frozen into it. They had a brilliant time chipping away at it throughout the day and then had some extra fun ingredients to include in their mud kitchen play.

We also used ice as part of a painting activity as small pieces of ice were put in a tray with chalk to see what patterns could be created. The children used toy animals to create tracks in the colourful water which created all sorts of beautiful patterns.

There was another great activity using a tub of water to see if items floated or sank. The children took it in turns to find different items around the forest and then put them into the tub to see what would happen. We then put them in a tuff tray, on either the ‘float’ or ‘sink’ side. It was a great way to learn about weight in water and how we can test out theories.

We have also made potions this week using water and flowers. The children decided what the potions would be used for; some for turning into frogs, some for growing into a giant and some to become super speedy!!

It has been such an exciting week in the forest, finding ways to keep cool but also have lots of fun in the sun!!
