Our Week in the Forest
The Gruffalo lives in Fishpond Woods and for years the children have been walking past his house everyday without seeing him. This week, however, we were lucky enough to catch a glimpse of the Gruffalo, the fox and the owl! We then went onto site and saw the mouse’s reading house and the snake's log pile den. The children then had to find some more logs to help the snake rebuild his house, to help ensure he couldn’t be found by the Gruffalo!
We have also loved exploring the blanket of fallen leaves this week! Wagons full of leaves have been collected and moved around the forest, creating new leaf mounds to jump in and spaces to create leaf angels. Some of the wagons became leaf beds where the children could relax and enjoy the different sizes, shapes and colours of the leaves. It’s been lovely to see the bright yellow add to our forest and give a real autumnal feel.
There has also been a lot of discussion about emotions this week, looking at using colours to express how we feel. The children have been enjoying 'The Colour Monster', 'The Day The Crayons Quit' and also 'Let’s Talk About Feelings' books. The books are a lovely way for everyone to get involved with the discussion and we can use them throughout the day to get the message across.
The forest looks beautiful at this time of year and we are so lucky to be able to enjoy it every day!
