Winkworth - All Aboard!

All aboard Little Forest Folk Winkworth, where pirates have taken us all captive and set off on the high seas! The children have embraced their sea legs on our pirate ship this week, practicing climbing, walking the plank and waving our Jolly Roger flag. The pirates have also been busy on treasure hunts, digging up exciting discoveries like precious shells to count up and add to their treasure chest.

It’s been a great chance to continue some tool work and develop our whittling skills as our little ones made their own pirate ships. We discussed key vocabulary like ‘mast’ and ‘sail’ while the children whittled their own masts with potato peelers and traced and cut out a triangle for their sail. Then it was time to trace around some sticks and stones for the skull and crossbones, and to put it all together using recycled egg cartons. Our little adventurers showed off their mathematical skills, calculating how many passengers and pieces of luggage their ship could hold - as long as it added up to 6!

Our pirate adventurers have been out and about this week too, exploring some exciting castles and dragons that have popped up in the Arboretum! With the help of the bracken, they took to the skies with wings and horns like forest dragons. The forest was filled with their roars. Luckily the dragons were quite sleepy after being so fearsome and enjoyed a restful afternoon in the sunshine. We hope the pirates don’t steal their treasure!
