Back to the gloves. Back to the hats. Back to a cool wind nipping at our fingers and noses.

Easter has been and gone but the lingering memory of the delicious eggs and the extra long weekend hung in the children’s minds.

The Forest Folk went to the woods,
And the weather they found, it was good,
So they played through the day,
In a messy, muddy way,
And went home for dinner and puds!

As I stood amongst the trees, the ‘Forest Folk’ as they are most commonly known, scampered and played around me.

The sun glinted off the forest animal enclosures, with lions, monkeys and cheetahs lazing in the shade beyond them.

As the droplets bounced off hood and hand, the smallest nose peeped out and headed onwards: to the towering logs; the planks placed miles above the meadow and the ladders stretched across grass and the sprouting nettles.

A week of walking in another’s paw prints. Flitting through the meadow, from flower to flower, the children danced in the warming rays.
