We’ve been bursting with excitement and now that it’s the Queen’s birthday and the official announcement day, we are absolutely delighted to finally share with you the news that Little Forest Folk has been given the royal seal of approval.
Following our being selected by Tatler as being one of the finest nurseries in the nation last month, we are now delighted to share with you an article written about Little Forest Folk by a journalist who visited us in our Wimbledon setting a few weeks ago.
Well, this weekend was the long awaited Nursery World Awards! It was a fabulous event and we were delighted to be recognised in such a large industry such as the early years to be one of the industry leaders.
‘Wouldn’t we all secretly like to be Little Forest Folk?' We are incredibly excited and proud to be included once again in the prestigious annual Tatler Nurseries Guide.
What a chilly start to the week it was! And how excited we all were to have ACTUAL snow in the forest! The children were brilliant in keeping up their spirits on the colder days and we couldn’t have been prouder of them.
We took clay, paints, crayons, card, twine, scissors and tape into the forest and the children used these resources to make and create their own wonderful pieces of art. With the clay, the children experimented with different ways of manipulating and moulding.
We have been greeted by deep green grass and golden Autumn leaves covered in dew drops this week, a gorgeous sight and one which fascinates the children, who are coming to terms with the difference between rain, dew, frost and snow.
This has been such an exciting week in the forest with the move to our new base camp. For those who helped move some of our logs last week, the transition was seamless; for others who arrived on Monday morning to this new, alien base camp it was a bit more of a shock.
Wow! We couldn’t have dreamt of a more fun-filled and busy week at Wandsworth! Over at Paradise our children have been enthralled by the family of very friendly robins that visit us in the apple orchard throughout the day and at snack time.
What a week of different weather we’ve had in Wimbledon. Rain, warmth, sun, cold – all seasons in 5 days almost! Through everything, the children have explored, climbed, crawled, jumped, bounced and loved every moment.
As the crisp cold mornings of winter become more frequent and the days get shorter the children at Little Forest Folk Barnes carry on as if nothing has changed. The only thing they now need is an extra few layers of clothing, some warm gloves and a good hat!
Kindness towards others has been a talking (and actioning!) point this week, starting with a visit from our forest's resident robin red-breast early in the week.
This week in the forest it has been a cold but fun-filled week consisting of chasing bubbles, face-painting, obstacle courses and most exciting of all, getting ready to move to our new site!
If you go down to the woods today be sure of a big surprise… for there you will find the Little Forest Folk wrapped up like presents under a Christmas Tree and joyfully singing, dancing, playing and chatting.
Together, children can achieve anything. This cold week spurred the children to collaborate in the building and creating of lots of big features throughout the forest. Constructing houses took up many hours over several days as the children searched for the best resources and tools to build with.
The children were very excited when the new story books arrived and couldn’t wait to find out what adventures Supertato and the evil pea would take us on!
At Kew, there were muddy ponds to explore where the children found that they could create brown and green bubbles by moving their sticks quickly in the water.
Whilst our little forest voices may not be classically trained, they are certainly enthusiastic! We love having a good old sing song at circle time and with our growing team it has been brilliant fun to expand our repertoire.
As the children continue to progress with their amazing tree climbing, the practitioners always looking to present new challenges for the children; this week we have been focusing on using the zip line.
On Monday we split into two groups at Kew and headed off in two different directions. One group wanted to do some fishing, so they headed to the lake behind Kew House and hunted for the perfect sticks to turn into fishing rods.
The colours of the forest this week have been incredibly vibrant with sharp frosty mornings. We have been observing how the natural world is making these beautiful transformations.
