Our Week in the Forest
What a magical week we had in the forest! Our adventures were filled with curiosity, creativity, and friendship as we explored, discovered, and celebrated together.
🌬️ Windy Days & Park Play
Although strong winds meant we couldn't visit the forest in the beginning of the week, that didn’t stop us from having an amazing day filled with play, laughter and new experiences!
The playground was full of energy and excitement. For some of us, it was the very first time having snack outdoors in the playground - a fun and exciting change that made the morning feel extra special!
We explored the sandpit, zoomed around with our friends and had a blast on the big swing. One of the highlights was our impromptu singing concert on the swing - everyone sang together so beautifully, turning playtime into a musical celebration!
Back in the room we worked together on puzzles, pretended to be different animals, and danced around the room in our own little forest-free celebration. There were lions, birds, frogs and many happy giggles as we moved together through our animal adventure.
💛 Big Feelings & Emotional Conversations
We also took some time to talk about our emotions - how we feel them, how to describe them and what we can do when we feel happy, sad, or even cross. Everyone shared their thoughts beautifully, showing empathy, understanding and a growing emotional awareness. These conversations help build resilience and strong social connections.
🍃 Leafy Discoveries & Nature Play
We have had a hands-on exploration of leaf patterns using leaf stamps and play dough. The children were fascinated by the details each leaf left behind - some had smooth edges, others were jagged like zigzags and a few looked like they had tiny “teeth,” just like dinosaurs! Inspired by our stamped creations, we wandered through the forest to match our imprints with real leaves, sparking lively conversations and close observation.
This activity not only encouraged sensory play and fine motor skills but also deepened the children’s understanding of plant diversity and nature’s design.
🪵 Who Lives Under the Log?
We put our muscles to the test by rolling over fallen logs to uncover the hidden world beneath. What we found was an incredible micro-ecosystem that usually goes unnoticed - moist, earthy spaces filled with wriggling worms, curious beetles, slippery snails and the occasional spider or two.
It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to learn about habitats and the important role these small creatures play in keeping the forest floor alive and healthy. Children were amazed by insects each time we found them!
🧁 A Very Merry “Un-Birthday” in the Mud Kitchen
The forest transformed into a bustling mud kitchen as the children whipped up a delightful array of mud cakes to celebrate a very merry “un-birthday” - a special celebration just for fun! With plenty of mixing, scooping and decorating, the cakes were lovingly prepared as a surprise treat for our educators.
While the cakes were “baking” we had a special treat of our own: a charming skit inspired by the Pip and Posy book series, our current favourite book. The children brought the characters to life with imagination and laughter, showcasing their storytelling and performance skills in a heartwarming forest theatre moment.
Our forest adventures continue to inspire wonder and learning each and every week. We are so proud of the children’s curiosity, teamwork, and creativity. We can’t wait to see what discoveries await us on our next excursion!
Until then, we wish you all a restful and joyful weekend ahead!
