Morden - Adventure Walks to Cannon Hill Common

Our Week in the Forest

Autumn is in full swing here in the forest and the brilliant activities we've been enjoying has reflected this in the beautiful colours and natural materials we've been using!

We love to make the most of our adventure walks off site to Cannon Hill Common with activities on the go! This week to take inspiration from our physical development focus, we bought some coloured pencils with us to make some beautiful leaf prints. The children not only showed their lovely control over the delicate leaves and pencils, but also used some amazing vocabulary to talk about the changing season, and the detail they noticed 'these leaves are crunchier than last time!'

Another thing we love about our adventure walks has been the freedom to really test our bravery! The children started to balance across a huge tree log so we can practice our controlled gross motor skills. At the end of the log, the bravest children took a big leap of faith with Joe, to do the biggest jump we can!! I was brilliant to see some children face their uncertainties and also great to see the children who jumped with no worry at all!!

Finally, another nice autumnal teacher-lead activity we've enjoy has been using the different coloured leaves in our space to decorate some cardboard pumpkins and mini trees! The children have loved collecting and categorising the leaves. Once they have been separated, the children used them for a big mix of crafting activities, including  sticking them to the cardboard pumpkins, or attaching them to empty loo rolls to make some amazing looking mini trees!
