Chiswick - A Wonderful Winter Week!

Our Week in the Forest

Happy new year! We had a wonderful winter week filled with creativity, imagination and outdoor exploration.

Despite the cold weather at the start of the week, the children remained enthusiastic and engaged, enjoying a wide range of activities both indoors and outdoors.

During our indoor sessions, the children explored their creativity through play dough, rolling and shaping it into Elsa plaits, hearts for teachers and even cube houses using small sticks. These activities supported fine motor skills, problem-solving and imaginative thinking. The room was full of calm, purposeful play as children role-played fairy-tale characters such as princes, princesses and Cinderella, thoughtfully including friends by assigning roles as they joined. Others focused deeply on puzzles, showing great concentration and perseverance as they worked out where each piece belonged.

Imaginative role play continued with an exciting hairdressing salon setup. The children confidently took on roles as hairdressers, assistants, customers and cashiers. They wrote their names on waiting lists, discussed different hairstyles and exchanged money for haircuts, developing early literacy, numeracy, communication and social skills through play.

As the week progressed, we returned to the forest and outdoor spaces, enjoying beautiful winter sunshine. We were delighted to welcome new children to the group, who settled in confidently and became part of the play with ease. The children engaged in rich imaginative play, becoming doctors caring for their patients or construction workers collaborating and sharing ideas. A rope obstacle course encouraged balance, coordination and confidence as the children climbed, crawled and challenged themselves. For quieter moments, a hammock provided a calming space where children could relax, take turns and support one another.

We also spent time outdoors exploring the park and observing the marks and footprints left behind in the snow, sparking curiosity and conversation about nature and seasonal changes.

It has been a joyful week full of learning, cooperation, creativity and fun. Thank you for your continued support and we look forward to many more adventures together.
