Our Week in the Forest
This week we welcomed the holiday campers into the forest to play, we were thrilled to see old friends as well as make some new friends.
On our first day we cut thick stalks from the blackberry bush, then we carefully held the stalks and using a peeler we sliced off all the thorns before cutting the stalk into 2-3cm long beads. The centre of the blackberry stalk is made of a spongy material and we carefully used a thin tent peg to push the central core from the bead. Now we were ready to thread our beads onto colourful lengths of wool to create gorgeous necklaces.
On another occasion we had a sawing lesson, we learnt how to hold the saw and be safe as we cut discs of wood from the branch of our plane tree. Once we had sawn the discs, which we call cookies, the children had a great time colouring in the wood with wonderful colourful patterns.
With spring blooming all around the forest we have had fun at the craft table making bunnies and chicks. We made bunny masks with colourful ears, long whiskers and multicoloured furry faces.
The bunny cafe was a very popular spot for our budding chefs and the hungry customers. There were pies, tarts and cakes and all sorts of potions.
We have danced and sung and read stories too. We’ve played hide and seek and “Marco Polo” and we’ve built racing cars from boxes and small tyres.
Thanks for coming to the forest, see you again next time!
