Putney Heath - Easter Themed Activity in the Forest

Our week in the forest

It has been wonderful to welcome our holiday campers this week! The children have settled quickly into the forest, exploring, playing and learning together. Their curiosity, creativity and energy have been a joy to watch as they dive into our Easter-themed activities.

The week began with excitement as children explored Easter egg dying in the tuff tray. Using colourful lollipop sticks dipped into scented oobleck, they carefully decorated pretend eggs. Some children stayed deeply focused, while others experimented with layering colours, creating beautiful effects. Creativity continued with bird nests, where children mixed mud with water, shaped it into nests and decorated them with sticks and natural materials. Some children extended their ideas by exploring the forest to gather extra materials, showing amazing imagination and independence. While in the book area, others enjoyed reading Easter-themed stories, discovering bunnies, sunflowers and holiday traditions.

Energetic fun was a highlight of the week. Children participated in an Easter egg hunt, carefully searching high and low for hidden eggs, followed by a lively egg and spoon race that challenged balance and concentration. Imaginative outdoor games included tag, with children pretending to be police officers or “criminals,” while a few buzzing “bees” added to the playful chaos. In the afternoons, children loved taking part in dance parties, sharing favourite songs and showing off their fantastic moves.

Learning through play continued with fizzy egg science experiments, where bubbling reactions encouraged curiosity, observation and early scientific thinking. The children also enjoyed an Easter matching game, pairing items and chick characters to support memory, concentration and teamwork. For extra movement and skill development, they played a throwing ball game, aiming at cotton fabric numbers, which helped with hand-eye coordination and number recognition.

Throughout the week, the children have shown wonderful enthusiasm, teamwork and imagination, making the forest a lively and joyful place. They have embraced every activity with energy and curiosity, learning, exploring and having fun along the way.

A gentle reminder that our nursery will be closed for the Easter bank holiday. We hope all families enjoy a peaceful and joyful Easter holiday, spending time together, relaxing and celebrating the season.

The children’s smiles and excitement this week have been truly inspiring and we look forward to more adventures after the break.
