Our Week in the Forest
This week we have focused on expanding our role play and imaginative minds, that’s right, Peter Pan and our pirates are back! We have added to our experiences by learning how to make treasure maps at the scout hut. Our educators reminisced on their education and showed the children how to mix tea bags and warm water to decorate the paper. We used paint brushes, our fingers, dabbed the tea bags and even tore the bags apart to use the concentrated tea mixture to add spots and dark patches to create the feel of an old map. We continued in the forest to find our treasure, some of our educators hid colourful materials and objects for us to find. Using 'hotter' or 'colder' as guidance, we searched high and low testing our positions, language and trust in one another. We ended up filling up a huge cooking pot full of treasure, arrrrr!
We’ve also been discussing our numbers this week. Counting pieces of puzzles and numerical patterns, searching for the right number to match our descriptions. We spoke about our ages and with our holiday campers we were able to connect the numbers to a higher value as we have some 5 and 6 year olds who have joined us! In the puzzle shapes, the number of holes in the centre of the piece equated to the number of sides it had. We were able to sort pieces into categories before placing them onto the correct structure. As spring is here, we’ve enjoyed looking out for rabbits on the meadow too. Searching for their famous white fluffy tail amongst the growing greenery. When looking, we also searched on the floor for insects and worms. To our amazement we also found a centipede. We tried to count how many legs it had but they were so small and moving so quickly! We learnt that a centipede has 100 legs!
A wonderful week, we hope you have a wonderful long Easter weekend!
