Our Week in the Forest
Hello everyone! We’ve finally made it into our first week of March and we are happily embracing the sunny weather and blooming flowers 🌷
Continuing from last week, our focus has been on literacy! Recognising familiar prints and signs such as the 413 bus and the London underground. These play spaces give the children the opportunity to pretend and experience what it’s like in those environments, as well as recognise prints and words that they’ve seen before. 📚
Our Monday was luckily very warm which meant we had some of the little ones head out on an adventure walk! They visited the ducks and played hide and seek. Back at the forest, the children were very immersed in our bus route role play with clipboards of the bus routes and discussing familiar names and places they’ve been to! There have been a few celebrations this week, with Tuesday being World Wildlife day, we had a Safari Jeep with maps of Africa and our very own forest passports to travel with! Our Little Forest Folk-ers sang the ‘Continents’ song a few times and discussed which animals live where on our planet! 🌍
Wednesday was Holi and the children and educators all participated with coloured powder, or gulal, to decorate each other to celebrate Spring! Everyone absolutely loved throwing the colours and seeing how bright we all ended up looking. It was a fantastic morning and the children were very eager to learn about what Holi is! 🎨
On Thursday we celebrated World Book Day and we turned the forest into an immersive Wonderland experience. We had the Mad Hatter, The White Rabbit and The Cheshire Cat! Everyone got to attend the unbirthday tea party and paint some roses red. Talking about which books our characters were from and reading them was a lovely experience and the excitement from the children was contagious! 🫖
It’s been a busy and wonderful week as we start rolling into the warmer days, we are so excited to see what adventures we will get up to! I hope you all have had a good week and we’ll see you soon! 🌈
