–A Week of Forest Adventures!
What an incredible week we’ve had in the forest! From creative art projects to outdoor adventures and some fun learning moments, each day brought something new and exciting.
We kicked off the week with a splash of colour! The children spent the morning painting pebbles and sticks, practising their big strokes with paint brushes to evenly coat each object. It was wonderful to see the children's motor skills improve while they worked on their artistic expressions.
We explored a new creative challenge too - making necklaces by threading beads. Our little explorers not only worked on their fine motor skills but also practised talking about the different colours they were using. Some even started creating patterns, making each necklace completely unique!
The children also had a go at spelling their names and becoming familiar with the alphabet. It was such a fun way to connect letters with the world around them. Some kids enjoyed tracing their names with their fingers on our sand table, while others practised saying the letters aloud. It was a great start to the week, blending creativity with early literacy skills.
Later in the week we headed out on an exciting adventure! Our Little Forest Folk-ers explored the pond, checked in on the ducks and took a walk across the bridge. They were excited to point out the different birds!
We also played a classic game of "What’s the Time, Mr. Wolf?" which was filled with laughter and running around. The children also had a chance to climb over logs, building their confidence and enjoying the natural obstacles.
One of our amazing educators taught us all about land art and creating sculptures from the natural materials around us. Using pinecones, sticks and leaves, the children built everything from towering mountains to magical unicorns.
During the evening, before pick-up time, we focused on mindfulness and movement. The children practised yoga, learning different poses while also taking deep breaths to calm their minds and bodies. Yoga is a great way for us to learn about balance, focus and relaxation. We also took some time to revisit the alphabet and letter sounds during our yoga session. As we moved through different poses, the children identified the first letters of the pose names (like “C” for cat pose and “D” for downward dog). It was a fun and active way to reinforce what they’ve been learning!
As we wrap up this week in the forest, we’re already excited for what’s to come! We’ve had such a wonderful time combining creativity, outdoor adventures and early literacy skills. Each day brought new learning moments, from exploring the alphabet to making art from nature and we can’t wait to see what next week brings!
