Twickenham - Christmas Party Preparations

Our week in the forest!

Little Forest Folk Twickenham has been buzzing with preparations for this afternoon’s family Christmas/Winter party all week. We have been building a giant star from branches and holly sprigs from the forest, as well as hanging decorations upon the star and hanging baubles around the forest. We have painted a huge cardboard box snowman, a row of gingerbread houses made from recycled boxes, gnomes made from planks of wood wearing spare hats, scarfs and so many more things!

Ruby the elf has been flying into the forest all week and hiding in a variety of places around camp. Some of her hiding places have been tricky and we have had to hunt high and low for her!

We have continued to read lovely books from our winter advent calendar, our favourites have been “A Kiwi Night before Christmas” by Yvonne Morrison, “The Christmas Bear” By Ian Whybrow, “One Snowy Night” by Nick Butterworth, and “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” by Dr. Seuss.

Our Eco Club is up and running as the children colour in and design their Eco Club certificates. We are working towards getting our eco green accreditation. Our child-led and staff committees are assessing our site and our processes, making changes where they are required. We have put some recycling bins into the forest to empower the children to pick up and sort bits of card, paper, string, milk bottle lids etc.

We have also revisited our Moomin characters and drawn and painted them all upon recycled cardboard, they are about 70-80cm tall!

Fake snow was an exciting experiment this week too! We used shaving foam and corn flour and the children really enjoyed exploring the texture of the snow. We have enjoyed decorating pictures of winter jumpers, creating beautiful spots, stripes, splodges and flowers - plus we have also really enjoyed dressing up as elves!

Thanks for coming to the forest, we wish you a wonderful weekend!
