Putney Heath - Festive Creativity and Seasonal Excitement

Our week in the forest

We’ve had a truly wonderful week in the forest, filled with festive creativity, hands-on learning and plenty of seasonal excitement.

Monday was wet but full of fun. Before the rain arrived, the children got to work making their Christmas cards. Inspired by the holiday stories we’ve been reading, they excitedly shared ideas about what Father Christmas might bring this year and channelled their Christmas spirit into creating cards to take home.

On Tuesday, the festive theme continued as the children gathered loose parts to make Christmas-inspired collages. Using glittery paper, paint, glue and lots of imagination, they crafted beautiful seasonal artwork.

Wednesday brought a delicious highlight - Christmas cookie baking with the forest educators. Our little chefs enjoyed using their number sense and measuring skills to pour and mix the ingredients, taking pride in working together to create their treats.

Later in the week, the children made orange-slice ornaments. They loved the warm, citrus smell of the dried oranges and practised their tool skills by using a palm drill to make holes for the string. Threading the ribbon through was a great fine-motor challenge and the finished ornaments will look lovely on the tree.

By Friday, it was time for snowflake making. This was an excellent opportunity to practice snipping skills. The children folded, cut and unfolded their paper to reveal delicate winter designs.

It was a joyful, festive week from beginning to end. Wishing all our families a restful weekend and we’ll see you next week!
