Fulham - πŸ’›βœ¨ Climbing, Balancing & Moon Walks

Our Week in the Forest

A Forest Out Of This World!

Without a doubt, this has been the most spatial week of the month! We were on a mission to explore the solar system and launched a rocket into space every day. With spring around the corner and winter gradually leaving the forest, it's been the perfect time to understand how nature and seasons on our amazing planet work! 🌸🌻

Our little astronauts loved having a go inside the spaceship, as well as learning new planet names and reviewing their favourites. Before starting our stellar expeditions, we have been practising our physical skills daily on camp to be as prepared as astronauts must be. We practised climbing, balancing and moon walks on obstacle courses with our gravity defying boots! πŸ₯ΎπŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸƒβ€β™€οΈπŸ’ͺ

Most of them showed great interest in the moon, which we spotted from camp on most of the clear and blue sky days. This week, we learnt the moon is waxing crescent and that we will have a round, bright full moon very soon. We are so excited to keep observing the phases of the moon in the forest! πŸš€βœ¨πŸŒ“

The day we went on a spatial walk, we collected moon rocks for our moon rocks project. First, we used baking soda and vinegar to make a very spatial experiment. Our little adventurers poured baking soda on top of the rocks. Then, they enjoyed using the pipettes to squeeze vinegar into their moon rocks to see how fizzy and bubbly they got! When they finished, most children chose one rock to decorate using a gooey mixture of PVA glue with glitter. They loved getting messy and making their rocks as sparkly as the moon at night! ✨🫧πŸͺ¨πŸŒ•

We used foam planet balls to represent our solar system on the messy play tray which was covered by sandy cosmic dust! We practised mark-making, creating circles and ellipses using our fingers. We learnt the order of the planets from the nearest to the sun to the farthest and placed them in their corresponding orbits, which we made using hoops out of silver foil. πŸͺπŸŒπŸ‘©β€πŸš€

Our reading corner this week has been packed with lots of non-fiction books related to the solar system and planets. The most popular book was Here We Are, with lovely illustrations and the most interesting facts about the world and outer space. Also this week, we read Lailah’s Lunchbox book and talked about what Ramadan means to those who celebrate.
