Morden - ⭐️ Learning Literacy and a Burst of Sunshine!

Our Week in the Forest

The second month of the year has truly flown by, and here at Little Forest Folk Morden we’ve made the very most of the final week of February. 🌼

This week, our focus has been on literacy, particularly noticing print and developing an understanding of the five key concepts of it. To support this, we thoughtfully created engaging role-play areas inspired by familiar places such as the Co-op, Shell garage and the local chemist. These immersive spaces encouraged our children to recognise logos, spot environmental print and make meaningful connections to the world around them.

Like much of the UK, the highlight of our week was the glorious burst of warm sunshine on Tuesday and Wednesday. We were fortunate enough to head out on adventure walks on both days, something our adventurers embraced with such enthusiasm. We also took full advantage of the brighter weather by getting our hands in the soil. The children planted potatoes, wildflowers and even helped us establish a brand new vegetable patch. 🌼

Another wonderful literacy-rich experience this week was story creation. Our Little Forest Folk-ers crafted their very own tales, sharing their narratives with an educator who carefully wrote their words before they illustrated their stories with thoughtful drawings. We later read them aloud at dinner time and we were all incredibly impressed by the imagination, creativity and confidence shown. It was a truly heart warming moment for us all.

We now look ahead to the coming weeks as we move towards spring, a season of growth and beautiful transformation in our little forest. 🌼
