Our Week in the Forest
What a lively and engaging week we’ve had in the forest! With crisp autumn air and vibrant colours all around, the children have dived into a range of activities full of learning, creativity and fun.
This week, we have been exploring Bonfire Night in all its sparkly glory. Our Little Forest Folk-ers learned about the history of the event, why bonfires are celebrated and most importantly how to stay safe while enjoying the fireworks. We discussed the importance of keeping a safe distance from flames and how fireworks can sometimes be loud, so it’s okay to cover our ears or watch from a safe spot. Inspired by the bright colours and dazzling sparks, the children created artistic representations of bonfires and fireworks using paints, pastels and collage materials. Singing our bonfire song together was a real highlight - the forest was filled with the sound of laughter and music as the children celebrated the spirit of the season in their own creative way.
Our love for music and movement continued to grow this week during our body percussion sessions. The children have been fully engaged experimenting with beats, rhythms and songs. One particular favourite was the “Criss Cross Apple Sauce” song, where we all practiced tapping, clapping and moving in rhythm together. These sessions have been brilliant for developing coordination, listening skills and having fun with friends while exploring how our bodies can make music.
Adventure in the forest has, of course, been a big part of our week. The children enjoyed playing “What’s the Time, Mr Wolf?”, focusing on counting, number recognition and problem-solving skills. We have also been working on visually ordering numbers from 0 to 10, spotting missing numbers and identifying when something is out of place - all while running, laughing and having a fantastic time outdoors.
From bonfire-inspired creations to tapping out rhythms and number-filled games, this week has been packed with learning, movement and joyful exploration. It’s been wonderful to see the children grow in confidence, express themselves creatively and develop their maths and music skills, all while enjoying the fresh autumn air in our forest home.
We look forward to more adventures, imaginative play and festive creations next week as we continue to embrace the season and all the wonders it brings!
