Our Week in the Forest
Although the weather has not been the best this week, the children still had a wonderful time exploring and learning in the forest. Our new Little Forest Folk-ers are gradually settling in, while our existing children have been very welcoming, inviting their new friends to join in their play. It has been lovely to see friendships forming and growing.
This week, we revisited the important forest rules. The children are becoming more confident in following them, which helps everyone stay safe and enjoy their time outdoors. We also practised some simple Makaton signs, including please, thank you and sit. Our little explorers showed great progress and are beginning to use these signs naturally in their daily interactions.
The sand and clay areas were especially popular this week. Children gathered together to dig, mould and build, which helped them strengthen their fine motor skills and develop their sense of touch. These activities also encouraged plenty of social interaction, as everyone shared tools, exchanged ideas and collaborated to build castles and other creations.
Role play was another highlight. The children enjoyed acting out familiar home scenarios, such as looking after babies, changing nappies, or decorating a “house.” We also saw lots of enthusiastic engineers at work, as our little ones pretended to repair roads and pathways in the forest. These imaginative activities not only sparked creativity but also encouraged teamwork and problem-solving.
Of course, our mud kitchen was a big favourite too! The children loved “cooking” together, creating imaginative dishes such as pancakes, carrot cakes and pies. This play inspired lots of conversation, cooperation and creativity, while also giving children opportunities to practise role play and explore different textures.
✨ Thank you for another wonderful week of learning and play. We look forward to many more exciting adventures together in the forest next week!
