Our Week in the Forest

This week was another picture-perfect week in the forest - or should I say, picture book perfect! 🌳✨ Our learning intent was all things literacy, with a focus on extended storytelling and diving into exciting new vocabulary. From cover to cover, it was a novel way to spark imagination and get our creativity 'write' on track! πŸ“šπŸŒŸ

We snapped into action this week with a special child-led interest - a jungle adventure in search of crocodiles! 🐊

With literacy as our main focus, we dove straight into our favourite crocodile and alligator-themed books. From 'Alan the Alligator' to 'The Big Hungry Crocodile', we were absolutely swamped with choice. You might say... it was jaw-some!

Of course, no jungle expedition would be complete without some fancy dress - and let’s just say, Little Forest Folk Fulham are definitely snappy dressers! 🐊✨ The adventure continued as we pieced together crocodile puzzles and tackled the Alligator Alley climbing frame, where the children skilfully navigated their way across a β€œlagoon” full of imaginary reptiles. At lunch, Dan treated us to a croc-tail of excitement with his nerve-jangling story about encountering real Australian crocodiles - we were hooked! And last, but certainly not least, we put a wild twist on the classic Hungry Hippos game - only this time, it was crocodiles and alligators snapping up the balls! It was super fun and a fantastic way to practise turn-taking, teamwork and learning how to gracefully scale both victory and defeat.

On Tuesday, we had a farm-tastic day - cue lots of renditions of Old MacDonald Had a Farm! πŸŽΆπŸ„ It was perfect timing too (or should I say moo) as enjoying songs and rhymes ties right into our literacy intent for our littlest learners this week. πŸ“šβœ¨ We had the wheelbarrow at the ready for all sorts of farmyard tasks and our small-world farm was set up with cosy straw beds for the animals.... moo-velous hospitality! πŸ–πŸ‘

The highlight? Possibly the best tractor we’ve ever seen - perfect for some serious gallop-vanting around camp! While some little farmers tended to the animals, others got stuck into vehicle maintenance - fuelling up, fixing and giving the tractor a good wash. 🚜🧼 Of course, no farm day would be complete without our favourite farmyard books, including our fan favourite (or should we say farm favourite), 'What the Ladybird Heard!' πŸžπŸ“– One thing’s for sure: being a farmer is udderly exhausting - by the end of the day, we were all ready to hit the hay! 😴🌾

On Wednesday, we said goodbye to the farm and tracked our way onto the savanna for a wild safari-themed day! 🐘🦁🌾 We explored all our favourite books about the Big Five - it turns out we’re lion-ing up quite the collection on lions and elephants!

On Thursday, we went wild with a dinosaur-themed day! πŸ¦•πŸ“š We kicked things off with a roar-some dinosaur colouring activity, followed by a fun (and slightly tricky!) dinosaur name pronunciation challenge. Perfect for our literacy focus - hello, three- and even five-syllable words! Can you say Micropachycephalosaurus?... we gave it a good try! πŸ˜„πŸ¦–

The highlight of the day was a massive volcano-themed climbing frame - the perfect setting for countless rounds of β€œThe Floor is Lava!” The children climbed, jumped and stomped like true dinos escaping a fiery fate! πŸŒ‹πŸ”₯ All in all, it was a dino-mite day filled with fun, learning and a stegosaurus-sized dose of imagination!  πŸ“š

This week was all about literacy, but it’s clear we were also feeling a bit wild about animals - because on Friday, we had another animal theme as we dove deep into the underwater world! 🌊🐠  We had a whale of a time with our ocean-themed day: we really made a splash! The highlight? A very spe-shell narwhal visiting camp. What better way to spark storytelling and ignite imagination than learning about narwhals, the real-life unicorns of the sea! πŸ‹πŸ¦„πŸŒŠ

All in all, it was a page-turner of a week and we can’t wait to read what’s coming next! πŸ“šβœ¨
