What a lovely week it’s been! We began by talking about our families and drawing family trees. Each child carefully added names to their trees, celebrating the people who are special to them. Later in the morning, we headed out on a big scavenger hunt around the Heath. The children learned how to identify different trees by their bark and leaves, collecting treasures like acorns and conkers to use in play and craft projects.
In the forest, spaghetti and playdough became monsters and spiders, with children adding spaghetti legs to bring their creations to life. Junk modelling was another highlight, with rockets, towers and colourful constructions proudly built and paraded around camp. In the small world area, dinosaurs had their own adventures, complete with playdough habitats and even necklaces and scarves designed by their Little Forest Folk-ers!
Role play was buzzing throughout the week. Some children transformed the role play area into a cosy house where they looked after teddies and served tea, while others became doctors, handing out “strawberry medicine” to keep everyone healthy. Later in the week, a forest orchestra came together, complete with sticks as instruments!
A real highlight was spotting autumn wildlife. With the leaves falling, it was easier to see birds and squirrels darting about. The children were particularly fascinated by a robin, recognised by its bright red belly. They even tried to “speak robin,” experimenting with English and bird-like tweets and songs. In the afternoon, we set out to find a potential new camp, which the children named “Dinosaur Camp.” - although the spaces we found weren’t quite big enough yet, the children enjoyed the adventure and resolved to explore further next time.
The week ended with plenty of laughter, teamwork and creativity!
