This week, like every week, there was a lot to be excited about! We had two special days to celebrate: International Dance Day and International Jazz Day. And thanks to the tropical weather, we celebrated in style β hello sunnies, goodbye coats! πΆοΈπ©³ ππ
The week was filled with musical activities, dancing, and even some forest bathing and mindfulness. It was like we were at Glastonburyβ well, kind of! One thingβs for sure: there was plenty of fun and sun.
On Dance Day, Tuesday β or should I say Twirl-sday β we had a huge stage setup. We had instruments. We had flags. We had balloons. We had colourful chalk to decorate the stage! We definitely hit all the right notes for a dance party. It was the perfect spot to bust a move and shake it off! Our mini forest groovers really stole the spotlight, showing off some truly creative dance moves ππΊπππͺ
πͺ© For those who needed to pause the playlist, there was an on-theme food truck mud kitchen to refuel, glittering face gems to shine with β¨, and a tie-dye station to get tied up with!
On Wednesday, it was so hot we were mindful our camp might feel less like Glastonbury and more like Burning Man! π₯½β€οΈβπ₯ With that in mind, we set up at our leafy Bishop Tree site. Goodbye Burning Man desert-scape, hello Wilderness! π΄π³π³ Here, we had a special setup for International Jazz Day! We had cardboard jazz instruments scattered β or shall I say scat-tered β all around camp π·πΆ. Our resident music man, Dan, helped the children by playing some music and asking them to identify the musical instruments they could hear. Identifying rhymes helps develop phonological awareness so, for us, it was an ear-resistible activity! In addition to the cardboard jazz instruments, of course we had real instruments to jam with too! πͺ Surrounded by jazz, everyone felt very chill β we even had a hammock, and in the afternoon, we all enjoyed some forest bathing π³π§ββοΈ.
On Thursday, we were again at our Bishop Tree setup! ποΈ And this time, things got roar-some! π¦ We transformed into palaeontologists for the day, ready to dig deep into the prehistoric past. π¦ We had dinosaur-themed books π and dusted off our digging skills for a dino excavation! π¦β¨
Equipped with hard hats πͺ, toothbrushes πͺ₯ for careful excavation, clipboards π, trays for placing the artefacts, and spades βοΈ, the children were ready to dig in. While some of our toy dinosaurs were being gently excavated from the mud ποΈ, others were chilling out β quite literally β trapped in ice! π§ Our Little Forest Folk-ers worked together to free the frozen dinos and returned them to the team. To add to the adventure, we had a hidden Triceratops skeleton scattered all around camp β including a few pieces that needed digging up. The children worked hard to uncover all the bones and piece it back together π¦΄!
It was a great week β sun, dancing, and dinosaurs! π¦π¦ It wasnβt quite like the Natural History Museum, or a music festival... there were no queues! Well, except for hand washing before lunch! π§Ό We can't wait to see what next week has in store! ππΆπΈπΊπ·π©π»βπ€πππͺ
