This week in our Morden forest, we’ve been beating the heat with our exciting water play set ups! Tubes and tunnels were made so that streams of water could flow in different directions to be collected at the bottom, or blocked up by sticks and twigs. This fitted nicely into the ‘understanding the world’ intent for the week, of looking at the jobs of people in our communities. We spoke about firefighters needing lots of water to put out fires, farmers needing water to grow their crops, and plumbers being needed to help unblock pipes in our homes!
Another great activity we had this week was an oldie but a goodie - using tea bags to stain paper and make our own maps! Some children drew maps of the forest, some of their houses or favourite parks, and some of where they wanted to go on holiday! It was great to speak with them about the important ways to use maps, and how old some of our most special maps are, turning brown with age. And we got to splash about with some nice smelling water!
Finally one of our favourites has been building our mini Stonehenge!! Migs has brought us some pictures of the different stone circles around the world, and we had the chance to arrange the bricks in different ways to see how we can build the sturdiest structures, and decorate them with chalk to make them unique to our forest!
