Chiswick - Sunshine, Colour and Creepy Crawlies

A week of Sunshine, Colour, and Creepy Crawlies!

This week, our forest was bathed in warm sunshine, and we made the very most of it! The beautiful weather inspired plenty of exploration and play, as we immersed ourselves in the wonders of spring.

We began the week learning all about rainbows and the magic of colours. The children then ventured out on a colour hunt, discovering nature’s own rainbow—from the vibrant purples of blooming bluebells to the cheerful yellows of dandelions, and every colour in between. Inspired by our findings, we also practiced our fine motor skills by stitching colourful wool into rainbow shapes—each one unique and full of creativity.

Our curiosity turned to the miniature world of bugs as we explored how to care for our tiny forest friends. With magnifying glasses in hand, we went on a minibeast hunt and were delighted to find beetles, woodlice, and wriggly worms. To give our new friends a cozy home, we worked together to build a beautiful bug hotel using logs, leaves, moss, and bamboo. The children also crafted a colourful welcome sign—our bugs will be moving in style!

Counting fun continued through the week as we practiced number recognition using natural materials like pine cones, sticks, and stones. Whether arranging pebbles in order or counting out leaves, our little learners found joy in every number.

Everyone enjoyed a relaxing turn in the hammock, swaying gently under the trees. We also had loads of adventurous climbing fun using our new climbing logs—balancing, jumping, and building confidence with every step.

It’s been a week full of discovery, laughter and connection with nature. We’re already looking forward to what the next week will bring!

See you next week!
