This week was Bank Holiday week. πΊπ»We missed Monday, but Tuesday was all the more fun because we got to hear all about what our friends had been up to - Little Forest Folk Fulham traversed the country from the Isle of Wight to Manchester and Scotland! π Talk about going the extra mile!
This week was super exciting because it was our Holiday Camp week! ποΈ We had new friends joining us every day! Many of the holiday campers were familiar returning faces and it was super fun to catch up with old friends. π Of course, we missed our sessional friends, but we had so much fun with the holiday campers and canβt wait to catch up with our sessional crew to tell them all about it! β¨ After all, making new friends and experiencing shared outdoor adventures is what forest nursery is all about. πΏπ€
On Tuesday, we had a grape day - sorry, I mean great day. Or do I? π After all, it was National Grape Day! (In case youβve been living under a rock - or maybe under a foot? β¦that is how they make wine, right?) π
You might be wondering how one celebrates National Grape Day at a nursery. Well, we came up with a grape idea - doing a spotlight day on the popular childrenβs book Handaβs Surprise, which, of course, features a bunch of fruity fun! πππππ It was a bit rainy - but that didnβt stop us! The weather was pear-fect for making fruit smoothies in the mud kitchen! πππWe chatted all about fruit, our grape-est favourites, and set up our very own Forest Juice Bar! Yum! πππ
We hope you donβt think itβs silly to celebrate National Grape Day - because the rest of the week only got sillier! π
On Wednesday, it was goodbye to national themed days and hello World Otter Day! π¦¦π
I know what youβre thinkingβ¦ that sounds otterly fun! 𦦠And youβd be right!
In the morning, we made otter face masks! Our Little Forest Folk-ers are already otterly adorable, but dressed as otters? It was paws-itively ridiculous! πΎπ₯Ή We had climbing frames, books, a special tent for hiding in, a mud kitchen and so much more - perfect, because otters love to play!
Did you know otters are one of the few animals that use tools? Given this, it was the perfect day to get creative in our mud kitchen with culinary tools! π΄πΏ
In the afternoon, we went on a long adventure walk! It was so much fun showing our holiday campers all our favourite spots. And in true otter fashion, everyone held hands with a friend - or should I say, significant otter. π¦¦
We found a shady spot and did some yoga - camel π«, downward dog πΆ, pigeon ποΈ... but sadly, no one knew a pose called βotter.β Looks like weβll have to invent one! π§ββοΈ After all, yogaβs been around for thousands of yearsβ¦ itβs about time we added an otter one to the list!
On Thursday, the theme was much more sensible: National Biscuit Day! We celebrated in style with a tea party setup! We enjoyed a high tea so fancy it was fit for royal-tea π, with every imaginable tea and biscuit combination πͺ. As for me, Iβll take a builderβs and a digestive, please! π
We had a colouring station to colour in all our nationβs favourite biscuits - after all, it was only National Biscuit Day!
ποΈπͺ We coloured in Jammy Dodgers, Custard Creams, and Bourbons, to name a few! π¨β¨
However, the piΓ¨ce de rΓ©sistance of our day was the clay station, perfect for making every biscuit imaginable! πͺπ Our pastry chefs did an amazing job! And now, weβre all as full as the Tiger Who Came For Tea! π―π½οΈ Crumbs, we had fun!
Taking a break from biscuits, we had a special visit from a very rare forest friend: a stag beetle! πͺ² They can be quite dangerous, so we were super lucky to have a gardener in gloves to show us the beetle up close. You wonβt believe it - he was the second one we found that day! The first was a massive female hiding by the outdoor door in our indoor space. The stag beetle is pretty rare and the biggest beetle in Europe, so we felt incredibly lucky to see such a majestic creature up close! πΏβ¨
Finally, on Friday, we celebrated the last day with our holiday camper friends with a special circus setup! πͺπ€ΉββοΈ We had juggling balls, silk ribbons, clowns, dancing and so much more! ππ€‘π
Circuses travel all over the world and return to the same place every year, so it was the perfect theme to say farewell to our holiday camp friends! ποΈπ Many will return to all over London and even the world, but we hope to see them again soon! π€π
Until then, itβs over and out to the weekend! βοΈβ¨ We hope it will be just as magical as the week! ππ
