This week was somewhat of a rollercoaster of a week - whilst we had a lovely week, we have had to wave goodbye to some more of our wonderful friends, who have graduated from the nursery. This is always an exciting time, but somewhat emotional too!
This week, our wonderful friends have used lots of their favourite stories and rhymes to develop their own play.
For example, our wonderful explorers went on a ‘bear hunt’, whilst on an adventure walk! The educators used Michael Rosen’s telling of the story to develop the adventure further and do you know what? Our intrepid explorers actually found a bear, at the end of a ‘deep, dark pathway’ - thank goodness that it was a beautiful day and we weren’t scared!
Our educators also loved teaching the children how to use areas within our camp to demonstrate understanding of a story - to do this, the children were encouraged to use the climbing tree, imagining it as a bridge. One of our explorers became a troll underneath and another child then became one of the Billy Goats Gruff and ‘trip, trapped’ up and over the bridge, only for the troll to jump out from under the bridge and begin to climb up - to gobble them up! After learning and acting out the story, the children then listened to a very funny version, told through song and considered the words that rhymed within them!
Additionally, our little explorers made some beautiful tapping sticks, using self-chosen sticks, different coloured wool, string and strips of material, which they used to tap out parts of their names - with our lovely educators introducing the term ‘syllables’ to the group!
The children also strengthened their hand muscles by taking part in ‘Play Doh Disco’, used clay to create anything they wanted and played instruments in a band!
To finish up the week, the children designed their own story stones and were given props to develop their own ‘shows’ from! This allowed everyone on camp to talk about and play around with different feelings whilst considering how others’ may feel in different situations.
It was a fabulously ‘emotional’ week!
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
