Putney Heath - Sunshine and Showers!

What a brilliant return to the forest after the bank holiday - it’s been full of adventure, treasures and creativity! With a mix of sunshine and showers, our Little Forest Folk-ers embraced the weather and made the most of every moment.

The highlight of the week was a fantastic geocaching adventure! Like a real-life treasure hunt, the children carried small trinkets to trade for treasures hidden inside the caches. Along the trail from the clubhouse to King’s Mere, they hunted high and low, moving leaves, checking behind branches, and squealing with delight each time they made a discovery. They proudly signed their names in the logbooks, leaving their mark alongside other explorers and were thrilled to take home their treasures.

At King’s Mere, the children loved watching raindrops ripple across the lake - “it looked like tiny waves!” They spotted a grey heron hunting for fish, copied its long-legged walk, and fed the ducks while spotting fish wriggling beneath the surface. It was a magical chance to connect with nature in the heart of the forest.

Back at camp, the children made natural paintbrushes using twigs, leaves and string, then painted with earthy tones of orange, pink and brown. Continuing with the My Forest theme, they wrote words on leaves describing how they feel in the forest, sharing just how much they love and care for the natural world. The week also brought hapa zome prints, blackberry painting and clay forest animals, all sparking imagination and creativity.

After patiently collecting conkers last week, the children were finally able to use gimlets and tools to turn them into necklaces and key rings. They showed great focus and determination as they drilled, threaded and designed their creations - proudly wearing and sharing their handiwork.

As the week came to a close, we said heartfelt goodbyes to our older children heading off to primary school. We are so proud of them and wish them all the very best as they begin their next adventure!
