Wimbledon - Happy Halloween!

Our Week in the Forest

This week we’ve been talking more and more about Halloween - what it is and what everyone is planning on dressing up as. We have organised activities this week that explore different features of Halloween. Spider painting was a huge success; they dangled down from a cobweb made by one of our educators! It added a new challenge to our creative artistry as we had to balance the spider and paintbrush together whilst applying pressure for decoration. But don’t worry, we achieved this with huge successes! We also have enjoyed pumpkin carving! We used a tuff tray to help us carve the lid off then gut the seeds out. We explored the textures of the seeds, is it rough or smooth? Wet or dry? Hard or soft? Some of us loved the feeling and others did not, an interesting sensory experience nonetheless! Despite the uncertainty of the feeling, we enjoyed using child safe knives to cut shapes, poke holes and push pieces through to form our designs. To finish it all off, we were then able to place it outside the scout hut hall for all to see!

We’ve also enjoyed a few adventure walks and dance parties this week. We were learning how to copy movements to rhythm and sound with the educators. Starting off with our well-known nursery rhymes and extending them to action songs like 'Tooty Ta' and 'Let’s Go Swimming'. We enjoyed the challenges this brought and it also helped us learn how to keep warm when raining. Even though rain can be challenging, especially for our younger children who started in September who are getting a taste of forest life in the winter, we coped very well! We found out how many puddles there are and how muddy we can get our hands!
