Our Week in the Forest
This week, we turned over the page and stepped into the most magical and fascinating stories and tales in the forest! With our little explorers as the main characters and a marvellous setting at Fulham Palace Gardens, we walked into the woods and let their imaginations run wild. We are so grateful to have the best scenes - from the frosty landscape illustrations to the mystery of secret characters hiding in their cosy dens ready to hibernate, it actually seems a fairy winter is about to awaken!
What better way to start our book than going sailing on an actual rainy and wet Monday? We embarked on our first adventure of the week, adjusted the sails, waved the flag and suddenly we were all on board our fabulous pirate ship - Ahoy! We took our favourite adventure winter books with us to enjoy story time, such as 'A Boy and a Bear in a Boat'. We pretended to travel around the world in search of the hidden treasure with our little pirates using our globe to choose different countries to land in and the secret map to locate every mark with a cross. Once spotted, they dug with shovels to unbury the golden coins!
We moved to the next chapter by entering a magical kingdom of royal families and fairies! Our main characters found a castle made of pallets, surrounded by a moat of deep-blue tarps. The bravest children got into the old building as fast as they could swim, while others climbed to reach the highest tower. They met the royal family inside - our little wooden dolls! They also found a range of costumes to choose from and act out their favourite characters, such as Bumble Bee from 'Where is Mr Bee?' and the chicken from the 'Chicken Licken' story!
Indeed, the fairies brought magic to the forest and came to stay with us! We made fairies using wooden spoons, paper, glue and glittery paint. The most creative children mixed shiny colours to paint their sparkly, colourful fairies. We also went on an adventure walk and joined the quiet, calm atmosphere to wait for magical creatures patiently. We hid behind trees and even safely climbed the most stable branches to look for every secret spot.
By the end of the week, we celebrated Thanksgiving with an afternoon tea party and made the most enormous and delicious birthday cake for one of our educators. Our little chefs used pieces of bark, mud with the perfect spongy texture, ‘salted caramel’ leaves, decorations on top and plenty of candles! Indeed, we all felt very grateful to have each other in our wonderful group of children.
Next adventures are to be continued next week. We can't wait to see the magic of Christmas and finally spot a winter fairy!
