Our Week in the Forest
Our week here at Chiswick started out quite chilly but that didn’t stop the bundles of fun we’ve had!
We started the week by reading stories. Goldilocks and the Three Bears as well as We’re Going on a Bear Hunt. This led us into our drama session which took place on an adventure walk. We also went on an actual bear hunt during an adventure walk where a teddy was hiding in the forest and we had to then go find them!
Also this week, we got to go and observe the river which had all frozen over, how exciting! We spoke about the changing weather and how winter is coming now after autumn. After this, we arrived back at camp inspired to create some snowflakes to practise our cutting and snipping skills by cutting shapes out of folded paper and unfolding it to see the result - a beautiful, unique snowflake! We also practised these skills earlier in the week by creating felt masks by cutting out eye holes and making snips at the bottom to resemble teeth.
To keep warm we’ve been doing exercises together in a circle. Stretching, jumping and running to keep our blood pumping. This then led to chats about healthy eating and healthy lifestyles so we can grow big and strong.
Another super exciting activity we had this week was a tuff tray full of fake snow! Sponge numbers were put in the ‘snow’ for our little explorers to move about and count out scoops of it. The textures were also fun for our little fingers to explore.
On Thursday we invited a lovely parent to come and teach us all about Thanksgiving. We listened to a wonderful story about what Thanksgiving is and worked through a worksheet with information on how to celebrate the holiday. We learnt to be grateful for all the wonderful things in our lives and wrote down what we were thankful for. We then got artsy and created some turkeys with leaves that had words to do with thanksgiving on them. Each child chose a word (such as gratitude, family, feast) to be written on a leaf which they then put glue on and stuck to a piece of card. A drawn turkey was then stuck on top so the leaves represented his big feathers.
We’ve had a fantastic week this week and cannot wait to see what December holds!
