Our Week in the Forest
We’ve had another fantastic week in the forest, filled with meaningful moments, active play, and wonderful opportunities to learn about ourselves and the world around us.
This week, we celebrated Children’s Mental Health and Wellbeing Week, creating space for calm, reflection and connection. In our cosy chill-out zone, the children explored simple mindfulness activities, including breathing techniques, gentle yoga and moments of quiet meditation. We also shared stories about feelings, helping the children recognise emotions and talk about how they feel. These moments offered a beautiful balance to our busy days, supporting emotional awareness and self-regulation in a gentle, child-led way.
In contrast, we also embraced high energy and teamwork through our very own Winter Olympics! The forest became an arena for racing, competing and cheering each other on. Our Little Forest Folk-ers took part in different challenges, made their own medals and learned about countries from around the world, linking physical movement with geography and cooperation. There was so much pride, encouragement and joy as everyone joined in and celebrated each other’s efforts.
Continuing the theme of races and competition, we explored the story of the Jade Emperor’s Race as part of our preparations for Chinese New Year. Our little explorers loved learning about the Chinese Zodiac and the animals involved in the race. Inspired by the story, they created some truly impressive dragons, using their creativity and teamwork to bring these mythical creatures to life. These activities sparked curiosity, storytelling, and cultural appreciation.
Throughout the week, the children moved effortlessly between calm and energetic activities, showing great awareness of their own needs and interests. Whether finding stillness in mindfulness or excitement in racing and creative play, they engaged with confidence and enthusiasm.
It’s been a joyful and well-rounded week, celebrating wellbeing, movement, culture and imagination. We’re so proud of how the children embraced every part of it and can’t wait to continue our adventures together next week.
